God created the heavens and the earth. In Genesis 1:26, on the 6th day “26 Then God said, “Let us make humans in our image, according to our likeness…” Genesis 2 states that after the creative work was completed God rested. “So, God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that They had done in creation.”
It is the first example of right living. Working 6 days then resting on the 7th. The Hebrew people of old had a multitude of laws around the law so that they would not break this most holy of days. They even took a year off after 7 years of work. Sabbaticals and Sabbaths are necessary and blessed by God. Why do we think that right living means production without rest? Why do we let society and greed drive us to overwork? How can someone take a true Sabbath rest if they cannot find work?
Take rest. Refresh your mind and soul. Give yourself space to not be productive. Or find ways to contribute when you are unemployed then rest from those chores. But whatever you do, remember that the Sabbath is made for you as a blessing to embrace in the most full way you are able.
